Make Good Trouble ✊- Action Alert, July 12, 2026

This Weekend: Make Good Trouble

Six years after the death of civil rights icon Congressman John Lewis, the country is facing unprecedented attacks on voting rights. Join us for the Good Trouble Lives on National Weekend of Action as we come together to honor the legacy of Lewis and defend the right to vote. This year's theme is Teach! Reach! Preach! --- a multi-prong effort to raise awareness, engage and register voters, and recognize the sacrifices of state and local civil rights activists in securing voting rights. This weekend, invite like-minded friends and plan to join BAM, other local Indivisible groups, and the many community partners who have organized this effort to support voting rights here in Jacksonville!

  • Friday, July 17, TEACH! 6 - 8 p.m.- Join us for a community gathering at the IBEW Hall downtown featuring local civil rights activist and historian Rodney Hurst as the keynote speaker. Enjoy food and music with fellow advocates. Please bring a nonperishable food item to donate to the Urban Pantry Food Bank. The event is free. RSVP here.

  • Saturday, July 18, REACH!- Be a part of voter outreach and education activities throughout Jax. Click here for a list of options. We'll be registering voters at the weekly protest at the Beaches Library and calling attention to threats to our voting rights. Join us!

  • Sunday, July 19th, PREACH! 7:45 - 9 p.m. - Join us as we honor state and local civil rights heroes who gave their lives for a better, more equitable future with a candlelight vigil at Memorial Park in Riverside.  Bring a chair or blanket. The event will feature inspirational speakers from the faith community. LED candles provided. RSVP here.

Tell Congress: Stop the War & AG Nominee

Despite the passage of the War Powers Resolution, President Trump has once again unilaterally ordered bombing raids in Iran after attacks on ships in the Strait of Hormuz and a failed ceasefire. Meanwhile, Congress is set to consider an $87 billion supplemental funding request from the Pentagon to pay for the war, with costs continuing to mount.

If ignoring the war wasn't bad enough, the U.S. Senate is poised to vote on the nomination of Todd Blanche as U.S.Attorney General. Blanche has demonstrated his loyalty to the President, and his appointment threatens to further politicize the Justice Department. Let our elected officials know we are still paying attention! This war is illegal, Blanche is unfit, and they need to do their jobs!

  • Call or email FL Rep. John Rutherford, and Senators Rick Scott and Ashley Moody this week. Demand that they enforce the bipartisan War Powers Resolution now that Trump has ended the ceasefire and resumed strikes without congressional approval. And no supplemental funding for this illegal and ill-conceived war. Reach them through the Capitol switchboard (202.224.3121) or click on their names to send an email.

  • Make sure you let Scott & Moody know that you oppose Todd Blanche's appointment as Attorney General and expect them to do the same. We need an attorney general who will act in the country's best interest, not Trump's.

Postcarders Needed!

The primary election is only 36 days away!  We are joining with the Beaches DEMS on a final Get-Out-The-Vote postcard effort to inform voters that we need to turn out about the election and races on the ballot.  Email us if you can help. We're preparing packets of 30 cards with suggested messages, address labels, and stamps for pick up next week. Grab some friends and help us get them done!  The cards need to be mailed by the end of the month.  Early voting starts Friday, August 7th!

Be A Part of Voter Protection

Check out these opportunities to be a part of voter protection efforts in the upcoming midterm election.

  • FL DEMS are now offering poll watcher training. This training will help you understand what to look for, how to report it, and the rules needed for you to step up as a Poll Watcher in the upcoming primary election. The next training is on Wednesday, July 15th.

  • Join Indivisible's Hands Off Our Vote 2026 voter protection initiative, a 50-state effort to counter election threats and ensure all eligible voters get to cast their ballot, and that those ballots get counted. Stay informed and be ready to take action!
