Counting Down! Early Voting Ends Sunday

More than 80,000 Jacksonville voters went to the polls last week during the first week of Early Voting. With mail-in ballots, more than 107,400 votes were cast countywide. Democrats are currently outpacing Republicans, but GOP voters historically turn out in force on Election Day.  Keep building that blue wave!

Early Voting continues in Jacksonville through Sunday, November 1st. Polls are open this week from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends at early voting sites throughout Duval County, including the Beaches Branch Library and the Jax Beach Community Center. Voters can cast their ballots at any of Jacksonville's 24 early voting locations. Voters can also return their mail-in ballots to a secure drop box at these sites.

A few glitches occurred during the first week of Early Voting, including issues accessing the Supervisor of Elections (SOE) website due to scheduled maintenance, and recurring problems with the touchscreens at the Beaches Library and other sites that inaccurately reflected voters' selections. Styluses, added to all machines during the last election cycle, address the latter issue; please use them rather than your finger, and check and re-check your ballot before submitting it to the counting machine. If it is inaccurate, you can request a new ballot.

A reminder to notify the Election Protection Hotline (866-687-8683) if you experience or witness difficulties with voting. Local volunteers are available to investigate, provide assistance, and resolve issues.

If you haven't already cast your ballot --- vote this week. If you've already voted or are just getting to it, keep encouraging your neighbors, friends, and family to do the same! Early voting is the safest and most flexible voting option, reducing potential problems on Election Day when voters must vote at their designated precincts and mail ballots must be returned to the Supervisor of Elections' Office downtown. Take a minute to check your voting status. If you are on the list, you are eligible to vote! Mobilizing to Protect the Vote

As hard as we've all worked to make sure these midterms usher in a change in power and priorities n Washington, we all share fears aboyt how this Administration might challenge the vote.   Trump's move last week directing the Justice Department to intervene in the Alaska Senate race if the GOP incumbent fails to win re-election is the latest in a long list of interference efforts, ranging from partisan redistricting to mail-in voting restrictions and bogus investigations of voter fraud by federal law enforcement agencies. Trump's record unpopularity and the likelihood that this election will cost the GOP will control of the U.S. House and perhaps even the Senate have added to fears of interference.

A coalition of groups, including Indivisible, is building a nationwide network to rapidly respond to any attempts at election interference. These plans for a nonviolent mass mobilization aim to enforce our democratic imperatives: every vote is counted, every election is certified, and all the results are respected. Action you can take now to defend the vote:

  • BAM has signed on to be a part of the national response effort, and you can too. Engage and participate by signing this pledge.

  • Join the Statewide Indivisible Florida Task Force (SWIFT) for its monthly meeting on Tuesday, October 27th at 5:30 p.m. This call will focus on ongoing election protection and election integrity efforts. RSVP here for the Zoom link.
