Jacksonville! This is What Democracy Looks Like

ree

More than 8,500 people marched across the Main Street Bridge and rallied at the Courthouse last Saturday as Jacksonville joined 2,700+ communities across the country in proclaiming: No Thrones. No Crowns. No Kings! It was one of 86+ peaceful, nonviolent protests held throughout Northeast Florida and the state. No Kings Day 2 events at the Beach also included sign-waving in front of the library with nearly 500 people in attendance, and a caravan of 80 cars that traveled downtown to Friendship Fountain, the start of the march. Special thanks to the many BAM volunteers who helped make No Kings Day 2 a success! And thanks to everyone who showed up and spoke out. It was a spectacular day!

No Kings Day 2 was organized locally by 50501 NEFL, BAM, and other area Indivisibles, and a host of other community activist groups and organizations. Nationally, it was the largest pro-democracy mass action to date against the Trump administration and its pervasive abuse of power.

You Marched. You Rallied. Now Take Action!

Keep the momentum going! Effective resistance requires continued engagement. Here are just two ways you can take action this week:

The Government Shutdown: Hold the GOP Accountable!

ree

It's starting to sound like a broken record, but we need to keep up the pressure on our GOP officials in Washington, DC! Hold Rep. John Rutherford and Senators Rick Scott and Ashley Moody accountable for failing to address the needs of their constituents, keeping the government shut down, and slashing the federal workforce.

If you've called them before, call them again! If you haven't called them yet, now is the time! Remind them that THEY own the shutdown. The GOP needs to quit playing politics and work with the DEMS to extend healthcare subsidies and other spending needed by their constituents. Stop victimizing the federal workforce! Call them TODAY (202.224.3121). Here's a script you can use with Rutherford, and one you can adapt and use with Scott and Moody.  A reminder that every call reflects 100-1000 angry constituents, according to congressional insiders!  Consider following up your call with an email (click on names).

Speak Out at the Upcoming Duval Delegation Meeting

ree

The Duval County Legislative Delegation --- all of the elected state legislators in our area --- will hold its annual organizational meeting and public hearing on Wednesday, November 12th from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the City Council Chamber, City Hall, 117 W Duval Street, Jacksonville.

This is your opportunity to speak directly to the Duval County state legislators about issues and legislation important to you and your community.

Anyone wishing to speak must complete and submit a Speaker's Request Form and Materials Handout Checklist.  All forms and materials must be submitted to the Delegation Office, located in Suite 480 of City Hall, by 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 5th. BAM is drafting talking points on two key issues: partisan efforts to further gerrymander the state by redistricting congressional districts ahead of the 2026 election, and the elimination of mandatory vaccinations for schoolchildren. Watch for more information!
