The Minds of Voters 🧠- Action Alert, April 6, 2026

"It's a new world. It's the same Constitution."

John Roberts, Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court, replying last week to oral arguments by the Solicitor General defending Trump's order banning birthright citizenship.

What's on the Minds of Voters?

Find Out on Thursday!

Join us for the April BAM meeting on Thursday, April 9th as we debrief about No Kings 3 and turn our attention to winning the midterms! Our engaging and knowledgeable guest speaker, Dr. Sean Freeder, director of the UNF Public Opinion Research Lab, will help us decipher what voters are thinking about and help us determine the impact of recent Florida election results and what they mean for 2026. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at the Adele Grage Community Center in Atlantic Beach. Bring a friend, your questions, and get ready for a lively discussion. All are welcome. Let's come together, keep up the momentum, and build on the energy of No Kings!

Defend the Right to Vote

It looks like Trump and DeSantis have already figured out what's on the minds of voters --- and are taking action to create as many barriers as possible to suppress the vote.  In an

effort to exert federal control over mail-in ballots, Trump signed an executive order last week requiring states to use a "citizen list" created by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for distributing vote-by-mail ballots. The order also prohibits the U.S. Postal Service from delivering ballots from anyone NOT on the list, and directs the attorney general to prosecute state officials who fail to comply. A coalition of voting rights groups promptly filed suit to block the order.

DeSantis, meanwhile, signed Florida's version of the proposed federal SAVE Act, which imposes new proof-of-citizenship and ID requirements for voter registration. The new law, which goes into effect in 2027, was challenged immediately by a coalition of voting and civil rights groups. Florida Rising, a party to the lawsuit, announced plans to work in Duval and eight other counties to help mobilize applicants and educate voters to navigate the requirements and counteract the harms of the statute. Let's make protecting the vote a priority this week:

  • Start at home. Check to make sure you have signed up for a mail-in ballot for the upcoming election. Florida law requires you to make this request every election cycle. If you haven't signed up yet for vote-by-mail, do it! It is a great backup, and does not prevent you from voting early or on election day if you decide to cast your ballot in person. One extra bonus: Mail-in is the only form of voting that gives you the ability to check online to be sure your vote's been counted. Click here to contact the Duval Supervisor of Elections office and check your status, or sign up -- and encourage your friends and family to do the same.

  • Stop the SAVE Act.  The Senate is expected to make another attempt to pass the federal SAVE Act when it returns from its Spring recess on April 13th. Despite unfounded claims to the contrary, there is no evidence of widespread voter fraud, the alleged impetus for the bill. The SAVE Act is designed to block eligible people from voting, not to protect elections. It will disproportionately impact women, seniors, low-income voters, and people of color. For more background, click here. Call FL Senators Rick Scott and Ashley Moody) and demand they vote no! Reach them while they are home: Scott's Tallahassee office, where they usually answer the phone (850.942.8415), and Moody (904.354.4300). If you only have two minutes, send this letter created by Nonprofit Vote.

  • Oppose Bogus Redistricting. In a matter of weeks, the Florida legislature will be back in session to consider further contorting our already heavily gerrymandered congressional districts. Remind our Beaches lawmakers, Sen. Clay Yarborough and Rep. Kiyan Michael, that a majority of likely Florida voters think this is a bad idea. For once, they should listen to their constituents.
