"Democracy depends on people who refuse to stay silent, who dare to step forward despite grave risk, and who remind us that freedom must never be taken for granted, but must always be defended — with words, with courage and with determination."
The Nobel Committee in announcing the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize winner,
Venezuelan activist María Corina Machado Parisca.
No Kings. No Thrones. No Crowns.
❌👑No Kings Day 2 is Saturday!
Join concerned citizens from the Beaches and across the country on Saturday, October 18th, for No Kings Day 2 as we stand up and speak out against efforts by Trump and his

MAGA enablers to destroy our democracy. There are many opportunities to participate -- pick one or join all of them!
Sign-Waving at Beaches Library from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m., organized by the Neptune Beach Coalition.
Beaches Caravan to the No Kings 2 March & Rally. Coordinated by BAM, we will gather at 11:30 a.m. to decorate our cars before heading downtown at 12:30 p.m. to Friendship Fountain for a march to the rally at the courthouse. If you've RSVP'd on Mobilize, look for an email with detailed information on the route, parking, and other options later this week. The Beaches caravan is one of four converging on the site from all over Jacksonville!
No Kings Day 2 March & Rally: Assemble at Friendship Fountain for a 1-mile march over the St. Johns River at 2:15 p.m. to a rally at the Duval County Courthouse from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. featuring speeches, entertainment, and more! If the march sounds like too much for you, feel free to drive straight to the Courthouse for the rally. This mass action is organized by 50501 NEFL.
Jacksonville's events are among the 2,500+ actions planned across the country --- and world! --- including 80+ in Florida. Not at the Beach? Find info here for activities in St. Johns, Nassau, Clay, Putnam, and throughout Northeast Florida.
Bring friends and join us as we peacefully and nonviolently exercise our First Amendment rights and oppose the authoritarian takeover of our country. Let's make this the biggest demonstration ever. In America, we don't have kings!
A Bridge Too Far: Publix To Allow Open Carry
For those of us (✋) who made excuses and continued shopping at Publix, despite numerous reasons not to, this is a bridge too far. The grocery chain, which boasts 900

locations in Florida --- including three at the Beach --- has decided to allow open carry in its stores following a state Supreme Court ruling. Other stores, including Winn-Dixie, Walmart, Sam's Club, Kroger, Aldi, Costco, Sprouts, and Trader Joe's continue their established policies to prohibit or request customers not to open carry firearms in their Florida stores. Boycott Publix! Use this quick form from Everytown Action Alliance to let CEO Kevin Murphy know you won't shop at Publix until open carry is banned in all Florida stores. You can also send a comment to the company using its Customer Care form. Extra credit: thank CEOs at other grocery chains for their decisions to put customer safety first! We've created one-click emails to CEOs at locally-based Southeastern Grocers (Winn-Dixie, Harvey's), and Walmart, but you can find info on contacting other chains on their websites.
Shutdown Continues:
Hold the GOP Accountable!
Keep up the pressure! As the shutdown of the federal government enters Week 3, we're adding Rep. John Rutherford to the action list since the GOP in the U.S. House is MIA. We

need to hold him and our two GOP Senators accountable for failing to address the needs of their constituents, keeping the government shut down, and slashing the federal workforce in critical agencies like the CDC.
Contact Rutherford, along with Rick Scott and Ashley Moody! Remind them that THEY own the shutdown. Voters agree! The GOP needs to quit playing politics and work with the DEMS to extend healthcare subsidies and other spending needed by their constituents. Stop victimizing the federal workforce! Call them TODAY (202.224.3121). Here's a script you can use with Rutherford, and one you can adapt and use with Scott and Moody. A reminder that every call reflects 100-1000 angry constituents, according to congressional insiders! Consider following up your call with an email (click on names).
Oppose Proposed Voter Registration
Documentation Requirements
The federal Election Assistance Commission (EAC) is accepting comments through October 20th on a petition submitted by the America First Legal Foundation (AFLF) --- a think tank co-founded by Trump puppeteer Stephen Miller --- requesting the amendment of EAC

Regulations and the National Mail Voter Registration Form to require burdensome documentary proof of United States citizenship to register to vote in federal elections. These requirements are central tenets in the proposed SAVE Act, the GOP's latest effort to suppress suffrage. The act inverts the responsibility to verify a person’s eligibility and citizenship status from election officials and the government onto every single American citizen, making citizens responsible for convincing the government that they’re eligible to exercise their right to vote.
The League of Women Voters (LWV) and other voting rights groups are urging concerned citizens to submit comments to the EAC opposing these changes, which would impact more than 8.1 million citizens in Florida who do not have passports, as well as 4.7 million women in the state who took their spouse's surname after marriage and so couldn't use their birth certificates to verify their citizenship. Click here to find the comment form and adapt these comments drafted by the LWV to voice your opposition. The LWV suggests that you submit your remarks as an individual or anonymously. Voting is the only way we are going to turn this country around. We need to do everything we can to fight voter suppression!
