2026: From Resistance to Action

As 2025 limps toward its end, NYT columnist Michelle Goldberg reminds us, there are reasons to be hopeful. "That's because millions of people throughout the country have refused to surrender to this administration's bullying."  Despite the extraordinary damage to the democratic norms of the country, Trump's consolidation of power, notes Indivisible co-founder Leah Greenberg, has been staved off not because of the actions of "pretty much anyone in elite institutions or political leadership but due to the efforts of regular people declining to go along with fascism."

Our challenge in 2026 is to move from resistance to action. In 2026, we can break the MAGA stranglehold and stop the hemorrhaging of our democracy by voting and working to elect candidates who are willing to fight back. On the ballot are pivotal elections at the federal (Senator Ashley Moody, Rep. John Rutherford), state (Governor, Cabinet posts, State Senator Clay Yarborough), and local (three school board members, including April Carney) levels. Current officeholders across the board have enabled Trump and worked to implement the MAGA agenda, ignoring the needs of constituents. Many, particularly federal lawmakers, have refused to meet with voters holding opposing views. It's time to hold them accountable. Resolve now to take action in 2026:

☑️ Check your voter registration status and encourage your family and friends to do the same.

☑️ Make sure to update your Driver's License number on your registration form, as it is one of the ways voters are verified for record updates, initiative petitions, and vote-by-mail ballot requests.

☑️ Request a vote-by-mail ballot. Florida now requires this request be submitted for every election cycle.

☑️ Help register a new voter (or two or three!) by joining BAM's Youth GOTV Action Group. We'll be supporting voter registration and get-out-the-vote initiatives at local colleges and high schools.

☑️ Support candidates! Websites like OATH and Ballotpedia provide information on candidates seeking office. We have a tough road ahead of us in Florida, so don't discount strategic investments in candidates in other states. Support office-seekers that align with your values and priorities by donating your time and money. Get involved with GOTV efforts organized by the Beaches Democratic Club and Duval DEMS.

☑️ Share this weekly Action Alert with a friend! Let's continue to grow the movement and stay informed on things we can do to make a difference.
