Action Alert - August 1, 2022

Updated: Aug 15, 2022

"The vote is precious. It is the most powerful non-violent tool we have in a democratic society, and we must use it." - John Lewis

Share BAM's Primary Election Guide

Whether you're voting by mail, voting early, or joining what we hope is a throng on election day, August 23, BAM's Election Guide should have the information you need on candidates, races, where & how to vote, and more. Races for our local School Board rep, Jacksonville's interim Sheriff, and the fate of the referendum on school funding are all likely to be decided by primary voters. Don't miss your chance to shape our future. And share this resource with family & friends.

Tuesday, August 2 - Jax Town Hall with Nikki Fried

If you're still weighing the Democratic candidates for Governor, consider joining CNN commentator Bakari Sellers & Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried for a town hall discussion here in town. Doors will open at 6 pm and seating will be first come first served. Click here for more information.

Wednesday, August 3 @ 7 pm - Beaches Watch District 2 School Board Candidate Forum

Mark your calendars and plan to attend the District 2 School Board Candidate Forum on Wednesday, August 3 at 7 pm at the Beaches Branch Library, 600 3rd St, Neptune Beach. Given the importance of this race, we encourage everyone to attend. Given current Covid numbers, we recommend wearing masks. Questions can be submitted prior to the forum by emailing info@beacheswatch.com. Questions can also be submitted in writing the night of the forum. To learn more about both candidates before the meeting, visit their websites: Elizabeth Andersen & April Carney.

Florida Voter Protection Needs You

Protecting the voting process is as important as educating and turning out local voters. The Florida Democratic Party's Voter Protection Team has signed up more than 1,300 volunteer poll watchers already - but still needs more of us to make sure the process runs smoothly and every vote counts.

More poll watchers are still needed to cover all of Early Voting and Election Day. Volunteers are also needed to staff the Voter Hotline people can call with issues concerning their votes. Once all the votes are cast, there's also a need for Observers to monitor our local Canvassing Board and for Ballot Cure Assistants to help people whose ballots have been challenged get their votes counted. Training is provided for all these important tasks. If this is work you can do, please register here.

Your BAM Dollars At Work Online

In addition to all the actions recommended above, BAM is also working to Get-out-the-Vote this primary season using social media. We're reaching out to voters across Duval County with static & animated messages. Check out the ad we'll start boosting on Facebook & Instagram just before early voting starts.

If it shows up in your news feed, please like and share!
