It's Time to Win! Three Easy Ways to Get-Out-the-Vote This Election!
Early voting for the May 16th City Election starts in three weeks. We have great candidates and a majority of Duval’s registered voters. Let’s get them to the polls & WIN this election!! Here are three easy ways you can help make this happen:
1. This week, email every like-minded JAX voter in your contact list:
Be sure Beaches friends know they can vote in Duval elections. (You’d be surprised how many don’t know this.)
Tell your friends in 1-3 sentences why this election is so important to you & the city. (Eg: Imagine a unifying rather than divisive mayor working to make Jacksonville a thriving, resilient community that works for all its residents.)
If they vote by mail, remind them to SIGN THEIR BALLOT and mail it now.
If they vote in person, remind them Early Voting is May 1-14, and Election Day is May 16.
If they aren’t sure about the candidates, send them to the BAM Election Guide.
Ask them to forward your email to at least 5 of their friends.
2. If you don’t already have candidate yard signs, email us and we'll get you one. We have signs for Deegan, Morgan and Garrison - candidates who share our views on the future of Jacksonville. You have more influence with your neighbors than you imagine. 3. Volunteer! Join your friends and neighbors in getting out the vote across the city!
Canvassing – Meet your neighbors at the Beach! Duval DEMS will canvass here Saturday, 4/22 at 10:30 a.m. (RSVP here). Phone Banking - Don't fear the phone! Join the Duval DEMS in a "Zoom-room" and contact folks with a reminder to return their vote by mail ballots. You can participate in the whole session or jump on for 30 minutes! Register here.
Postcarding - BAM is partnering with several groups to send postcards to women voters who missed the last election reminding them of the importance of casting their votes in May! Email us at beachesactivistmovement@gmail.com if you can help!
We can make a difference in the outcome of this election if we act now!

BAM Meeting Features Candidates on Beach Ballot
Three candidates vying for voters' support on the Beaches ballot shared their views on the future of Jacksonville last week at the April BAM membership meeting.
Mayoral candidate Donna Deegan sent a video message to the group highlighting the groundswell of support her campaign has received as a result of its grassroots outreach. Joyce Morgan, candidate for Duval County Property Appraiser, and Charles Garrison, candidate for City Council At-Large, Group
5, outlined their qualifications and plans for improving the city and its leadership.
Outgoing BAM Board members, Elizabeth Sams, Hank Brigman, and Frances Jones, were also recognized for their contributions at the meeting. Sams, who led the group for the last several years, reinforced the importance of BAM's efforts to engage and motivate voters. Four new members, Alan Halperin, Elizabeth Andersen, Ros Hoffman, and Heather Montanye, were welcomed at the meeting.
We also shared priorities and plans to lay the groundwork for the 2024 Presidential Election. Stay tuned for more information on how you can get involved!

Voters Decide: Jax Beach or Miami Beach?
The May 16th ballot for Jacksonville Beach voters will include a proposed charter amendment that would raise the height restrictions on a parcel of city-owned property. Better Beach 32250, Protect the Beach Life, and other citizen-led groups have organized to urge voters to oppose the ballot measure. The organizations are concerned this amendment opens the door for raising limits on building heights in the future, and would change the character of the beach communities. If you need more information on the proposed amendment, check out this video of a forum hosted by Beaches Watch in April.
