Down to the Wire on School Issues
We're entering the final days of this primary election - with early voting 10 AM - 6 PM through Sunday, August 21, and Election Day on Tuesday the 23rd. Two important education issues are likely to be decided by very small margins, which means voter turnout is key.
Incumbent Elizabeth Anderson has been a smart, compassionate leader on the Duval School Board. She's been endorsed by all 3 Beaches mayors. Her opponent has been endorsed by Ron DeSantis, Steve Bannon, and Moms4Liberty. If you want to help Elizabeth continue to serve all Duval's students, now is the time to act.
A recent email from the Jacksonville Public Education Fund makes the case for the school referendum this way: “Duval County Schools started the school year with nearly 400 teacher vacancies - if we don't pass this referendum, the vacancies are likely to continue growing. Simply put, Duval County, as one of only two large, urban school districts in the state without the additional 1 mill for education, will be far less competitive in recruiting and retaining teachers amidst a nation-wide shortage.” For the JPEF's one-pager that makes a strong case for a yes vote, click here.
Of course, other important issues are also on the ballot. This primary will choose the Democratic challenger for Governor, and a range of statewide and legislative offices. It will also narrow the field in the Duval Sheriff's race. Help ensure a strong, progressive turnout: encourage friends & family to vote, and make time for one or more of the activities below.
