BAM today called for a delay by the Jacksonville City Council in action on the redevelopment of Lot J to allow time for a thorough investigation of the project's financial, economic and long term impacts. A copy of the letter from BAM President Althea Lachicotte is at the end of this post.
The Jax City Council is slated to vote this Thursday on advancing a proposal to develop Lot J in what seems like a rush to commit massive city funds to a project that has not been fully investigated. A final vote is scheduled for December 8.
The Lot J Development will strap taxpayers with a $250 million investment in Shad Kahn's proposed entertainment complex as well as costs for clean up associated with petroleum contamination on the site. The clean up alone will cost millions of taxpayer dollars and take several years. Click here for more information.
Please write or call the Council today to support Council President Hazouri's call for more time and more study before moving forward.
