Action Alert - September 8, 2022

Writer's picture: beachesactivistmovbeachesactivistmov

"For a long time we've reassured ourselves that American democracy is guaranteed. But it is not. We have to defend it. Protect it. Stand up for it. Each and every one of us.” -- Joe Biden, 9/1/22

Tuesday, 9/6 @ 7 PM - Duval Voter Analysis

If you're still trying to make sense of the primary results, join this Zoom meeting tonight as Duval Dems chairman Daniel Henry offers a deep dive into the election data. He'll discuss where turnout was strong, where it lagged, and what these findings suggest as we work toward more victories in November. As we all know, voter turnout is the key. Come join the discussion with DWIN members and friends from across the county about how we can motivate and energize the vote this fall. Register here to receive your Zoom link.

Wednesday, 9/7 @ 7 PM - Beaches Watch Sea Turtles & Charter Amendments

Join Jax Beach Mayor Chris Hoffman & Sea Turtle Patrol volunteer Kevin Brown at the Beaches Branch Public Library, 600 Third St for a wide-ranging discussion of issues that affect our beaches quality of life. Mayor Hoffman will review the 16 proposed Jax Beach Charter Amendments appearing on the November ballot, while Kevin Brown, retired Fletcher science teacher and head of the marine science club, will address the current state of our dune system, how it impacts our beaches, and its impact on property and lives. He will also update the audience about this year’s busy sea turtle season. All are welcome, no registration required.

Saturday, 9/10 - Voter Reg Training

During Covid, Republicans registered more new voters than Democrats here in Florida. That's an advantage that hurt progressive candidates at the polls in the primary. So voter registration is a key priority this fall.

If you've never registered voters before, or want a refresher course, plan to come to the IBEW hall this Saturday at 1 PM. DWIN is offering a detailed, in-person training. Parking is easy but if you want to join a Beaches carpool, email us.

Join the Duval Messaging Network

Each of us has more influence than we imagine with family, friends & neighbors. Learn how to use that power more effectively. BAM, Mandarin Indivisible, DWIN, and the Win Elections Network (WEN) have

focused a lot of time and attention this year on how to counter lies and disinformation and more effectively promote positive messages to motivate voters.

Now WEN and IM have taken things a step further, creating the Duval Messaging Network. This group will regularly share visuals and text messaging for anyone to use with friends, family & our social networks. For example:

Visit the WEN Facebook page to see the latest messages you can share with your circle. Or if you'd rather, sign up with the Duval Messaging Network and receive the latest messages directly via email.

The Florida Voter Protection Team Needs You

The Florida Democratic Party (FDP) has issued a call for volunteers to help in the General Election with variety of voter protection jobs. In our increasingly partisan atmosphere, both major parties now work to have dedicated poll watchers at early voting and on election day to insure all voters are treated fairly and other rules to prevent partisan advantage are followed. Volunteers are also needed to staff a hotline where voters report problems, and to observe the work of the Canvassing Boards which evaluate and determine the fate of challenged ballots. Finally volunteers are needed to help voters whose ballots have been rejected "cure" whatever problems kept their votes from being counted. Training is provided for all these important tasks. If you can help keep our electoral system humming in any of these ways, sign up here.
