Action Alert - September 19, 2022

"Without the persistence of voters in America getting up to every election, democracy will not flourish." - David Hogg

In Case You Missed Last Week's Event

Last Thursday a more-than-capacity crowd packed the theater at Adele Grage for a fascinating and informative evening with candidates running in Atlantic & Neptune Beach. We are fortunate to have such an impressive roster of candidates vying for leadership in our communities and grateful for their participation. Enjoy a slide show of all the night's events here. The 3 candidates for Atlantic Beach mayor took part in a 45 minute Q&A which you can view here. All 9 of the candidates participating returned BAM's Candidate Questionnaires. To learn more about all of them, view their questionnaires here.

Turnout 101: Make Sure You & Yours Are Registered & Ready

As we gear up to maximize turnout of like-minded voters in the November election, one basic step we all need to take is to be sure we - and those we can influence - are as ready as possible to vote. Now is the time to take these simple steps:

  1. Registration for Vote-by-Mail has been shortened. If you're not signed up for the November 2022 election, sign up now. You can always decide to vote in person, but using VBM means you get your ballot early AND you can confirm your vote has been counted.

  2. Remind your moderate & progressive friends to do the same. While you're at it, talk about the races you're passionate about this year and pass that enthusiasm on.

  3. Urge each of them to do the same.

Educate Yourself & Others With BAM's Midterm Election Guide

We've updated the BAM 2022 Election Guide with everything you need to know about our local and national races. Click here for information on candidates, Constitutional Amendments, how and where to vote, and much more. And if there's a question we don't answer, email us and we'll try to help.

Tuesday, 9/20 @ 6:30 PM - BDC - Meet More Candidates

The Beaches Democratic Club (BDC) is meeting in person this week at the Beaches Branch library (600 3rd St., Neptune Beach). Take advantage of this opportunity to meet two impressive women running to represent Duval in DC and Tallahassee.

LaShonda Holloway is running for U.S. House District 4 where her principal opponent will be our area's former state Senator, Aaron Bean. This uphill battle in a traditionally Republican district is not one Beaches residents can vote in, but we should learn more about this potential voice for our views in Washington.

Sharmin Smith is a self-described "Navy brat" running to be our representative for Florida State Senate District 4. Her race is an up-hill climb against a well-funded Republican legislator, Clay Yarborough. Click here to register & learn more.

9/21 - DWIN Empower & Engage Wednesday

If you're looking for ways to help turn Duval bluer this election cycle, consider dropping in to the Duval Dem's office at 3120 Beach Blvd this or any other Wednesday between now and November 8. Our friends at the Democratic Women's Information Network (DWIN) are staffing the office from 11:30-3:30 to energize and empower new and returning volunteers - and to reach out to voters (new, hot, warm and cold) to activate and educate them on issues impacting our community. Join in person or via Zoom. Sign up here

Saturday, 9/24 - Postcarding at the Beach!

Join our friends at Beaches Democratic Club (BDC) this weekend from 2-3:30 PM in a postcarding outreach to newly registered Dems & hard-to-reach (no phone numbers to enable phoning & texting) in our District 13. We want to be sure they understand the importance of turning out to vote this November. BDC is providing the cards, names & addresses, and the meeting spot. Volunteers need to bring postage. Click here to register & get the meeting address.
