Biden: It's About Freedom and Democracy

We admit to a nail-biting start to last week's State of the Union address --- influenced in no small part by the constant barrage of negative media and polling. It lasted about 30 seconds. Biden delivered a forceful, fiery speech that outlined in unequivocal terms the different visions for our country and its future offered by him and his predecessor. The President left little doubt that he is not just the default choice, but the best choice to lead this nation. We've selected a few of our favorite recaps of  Biden's SOTU and the GOP's unsettling rebuttal below. This week, take five minutes to contact the President and voice your support for his commitment to “embrac(ing) freedom and democracy" and his pledge to "a future based on the core values that have defined America: honesty, decency, dignity, equality. To respect everyone. To give everyone a fair shot.” We are fortunate to have him at the helm.

Gaza: Lessons from the Troubles

Is peace in the Middle East possible? Coming up on St. Patrick's Day, we're thinking about another seemingly intractable conflict across the pond. While comparisons are imperfect at best, Northern Ireland offers some important lessons on the path forward. First, the conflict will not end until both sides realize that force will not achieve their political aims and that negotiations require the involvement of all parties. And second, outside agents -- specifically the U.S. -- play a critical role in bringing the talks across the finish line. Right now, Gaza falls short on both counts. And while calling for an immediate, temporary ceasefire, increased humanitarian aid and commitment to a two-state solution are steps in the right direction, Biden can and must do more. Urge him to do so.
