Beach Races
In addition to national and statewide races, Beach voters will find races for mayors and city council members on their ballots. Atlantic Beach and Jacksonville Beach voters will also weigh in on proposed amendments to their city charters.
We had a great gathering of Beaches candidates --- and a baker's dozen of intrepid voters who braved the downpour --- at the Ice Cream Social & Beaches Candidates Fair on October 6th! Enjoy the video below of the event. While Mother Nature failed to cooperate, there was lots of conversation among people vying to lead the three Beach communities. It was clear that
they all share a commitment to preserving what makes life at the Beach so special -- despite very real disagreements about how best to accomplish that goal. It is up to us to be informed voters in November!
Atlantic Beach
Proposed Charter Amendments
There are six charter amendments on the ballot in Atlantic Beach. The amendments were recommended by the city's 2024 Charter Review Commission and approved by the City Council. The amendments run the gamut from substantive changes to technical tweaks. Among the proposed changes: Voters could give the commission more power to protect local resources; place the power to sell park property in the hands of future voters; and increase the time commission candidates must live in the city before running for office.
Jacksonville Beach
Proposed Charter Amendments
There are two charter amendments on the ballot in Jacksonville Beach. One amendment would remove gender references in job descriptions or duties in the city charter. The other amendment eliminates conflicting language in the charter regarding a mayoral vacancy and how it is filled.
