A caravan protest in support of the US Postal Service will be held on Wednesday, June 17 at noon at the main post office on Kings Road in downtown Jacksonville. Organized by the AFL-CIO and the Postal Workers Union, the demonstration aims to call attention to growing threats faced by the USPS. The US Post Office is dealing with a serious crisis brought on by a political decision forcing them to pre-fund retirement costs 75 years into the future, a demand made of no other government agency, and by the fact that Trump appointees now control the agency.
This is a direct threat to the hard work we've done over the past several years to sign Duval voters up for Vote-by-Mail. The caravan is a smart, socially-distanced way of making our voices heard. Make a sign, bring your car. And give the Post Office your support!
Fundamental Facts:
· The safety of voters and the electoral process this fall may well depend on widespread use of Vote-by-Mail.
· That entire system depends on the proper functioning of the US Postal Service.
· Without intervention by Congress, the USPS will run out of money soon and is already struggling to maintain timely service with a reduced workforce.
The US House has introduced numerous measures to help. Thus far the Senate has opposed or ignored them. Click here for more information on the issue.
